Protecting a Renewable Resource Worldwide
Hardwoods are more than just beautiful and resilient—they are vital to carbon storage and the health of forest ecosystems. Through sustainable forestry practices like selective harvesting, natural regeneration, and replanting, we ensure the long-term vitality of our forests. Our commitment to responsible forest management is reinforced by adherence to internationally recognized certifications, including PEFC and FSC, which uphold the highest environmental and ethical standards.
We apply these same principles to our imported hardwoods, ensuring they are responsibly sourced from forests managed with care and transparency. By adhering to these certifications, we protect biodiversity, ensure traceability, and maintain sustainable forestry practices worldwide. We go above and beyond by conducting overseas site audits, reinforcing our commitment to ethical sourcing and conservation efforts through hands-on, in-depth evaluations.
CARING FOR OUR PLANET
Legal, Sustainable, Abundant Resource
North American Hardwoods are among the most plentiful and well-managed natural resources in the world. Hardwood forests naturally regenerate themselves and do not require planting. The preferred method of harvesting is single-tree selection. This provides a sustainable supply and ensures the overall health of the forest – including water quality, wildlife habitat, and biodiversity. As a result, the volume of hardwoods has more than doubled since 1950.
FSC® Chain of Custody
FSC is an international nongovernmental organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. To learn more, visit www.fsc.org.
NWH can offer FSC certified products from a variety of domestic and international locations. Also, FSC controlled wood mitigates the risk of forest products originating from unacceptable sources (fsc.org/en/cw). Ask us today about availability.

NWH can offer PEFC certified and PEFC Controlled Sources material originating from forests certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), American Tree Farm System (ATFS) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Z809).
