NWH Launches the 2025 Alder Seedling Program

Requests Open September 16th

It’s that time of year again—time to grow! Following the tremendous success of last year’s Alder Seedling Program, where we distributed 35,000 seedlings across the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, we’re excited to announce the launch of the 2025 program. This initiative is designed to empower small landowners to play a vital role in restoring the region’s rich Alder forests.

Why the Alder Seedling Program Matters

Alder trees are ecological powerhouses that play a crucial role in forest health. They’re not just any trees; Alders enrich nutrient-poor soils by fixing nitrogen, paving the way for stronger and healthier forest ecosystems. Moreover, Alders support a wide range of wildlife by providing both forage and habitat, thus boosting biodiversity in our forests.

Unfortunately, these remarkable trees have been in decline, often overshadowed by the more commercially popular softwoods like Douglas fir. By participating in the Alder Seedling Program, you’re contributing to the restoration and balance of our forests—ensuring that these ecological powerhouses continue to thrive for generations to come.

How to Get Involved

Starting September 16th, requests for seedlings are officially open. We anticipate high demand, so early submissions are encouraged to secure your share. Each participant can request up to 20 boxes, which equates to 2,400 seedlings.

The next batch of seedlings will be ready for pick-up in Spring 2025. We’re looking forward to seeing these trees take root and flourish on your land.

Take Action Today

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our environment. By planting Alder trees, you’re not only enhancing your own land but also contributing to the broader goal of forest restoration in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.

Ready to Get Started?

A sincere thank you to every landowner for your participation. It’s the collective efforts of individuals and the community that assure the legacy of the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty will continue to flourish for generations to come.
