NWH Report from the Field: High Point Market Readout

High Point Recap-News Post

High Point Market took place in High Point, NC, April 25–29, 2026. Widely considered the industry’s leading marketplace for home furnishings, it’s where real-time demand, product direction, and buying decisions come into focus.

NWH was on the ground, connecting with customers and tracking what’s changing across the hardwood landscape. Here’s what we found.

The Word is Measured.

Foot traffic was lighter than past markets, but that didn’t translate to inactivity. Conversations on the floor suggest that buyers who showed up came with intent. Orders were being written. Decisions were being made. Still, hesitation is present.

Across conversations with mills and manufacturers, uncertainty around tariffs and broader demand is keeping buyers from extending too far forward. The tone isn’t stalled. It’s measured.

What's Shifting

Demand remains soft, but not stalled.

Housing pressure and elevated mortgage rates are still shaping the landscape. The result is a market that’s active, but selective.

More value-driven product lines are seeing stronger activity.

Manufacturers focused on more accessible price points reported stronger movement than higher-end segments. Premium producers, however, continue to hold steady.

What's Moving

Red Oak’s momentum is a welcome surprise.

Across manufacturers and product lines, Red Oak continues to emerge as a reliable driver. Consistent demand, combined with its open grain, timeless appearance, and versatility, is keeping it firmly in play.

Walnut remains steady at the top.

In higher-end solid furniture, Walnut continues to perform. No major swings. Just consistent pull where premium still matters, thanks to its deep, natural color and grain that simply can’t be replicated.

What to Watch

Domestic supply remains in good position.

Producers are generally performing well, with steady participation across the market.

Alder signals continued opportunity.

One major importer introducing an Alder bedroom group is worth noting. It points to potential expansion, particularly as buyers continue to look for balance between performance, availability, and cost.

The Bottom Line

The market isn’t surging. But it’s not standing still either. Buyers are engaged. Orders are happening. They’re just moving with more discipline.
